Vet & Food Bills

Acadiana Humane Society Needs Your Help!
Acadiana Humane Society and Cat Ranch is a no-kill non-profit animal rescue in Sunset, Louisiana. We rescue cats, dogs, rabbits, guinea pigs, ferrets, chinchillas, and other small animals in need. Because many of our rescue animals come in sick, or with injuries, we have a lot of vet bills.

In the past year we had quite a few special needs animals. Here is just a small example of a few of them:

1. We had an animal control cat rescue named Max with liver damage that required lots of medication, blood work, and TLC. Max is doing much better and is getting his (hopefully) last set of blood work done on January 6th to see if he is completely recovered.

2. We took in a stray dog that someone brought to our adoption event asking us for help with. We took him in and this sweet Rat Terrier mix turned out to have a grade 4 heart murmur and is heartworm positive. Forrest is currently on Lasix, as well as Doxycycline to help get him well enough to undergo his neuter so he can be adopted into his own home.

3. A litter of four feline leukemia positive kittens. Because we are a no-kill animal rescue, we do not euthanise otherwise healthy kittens/cats just because they are positive for FeLV or FIV. However, these special needs kitties must be kept quarantined away from the other cats. One by one the kittens started exhibiting signs of illness and required special medical care until the vet said that it was more humane to let them go. Before they were a year old, we had to say goodbye to all four one by one.

4. Mandy, a cat we rescued from animal control is loosing teeth, has horrbile bad breath, and a red gum line. Mandy is going to the vet on January 3rd for a dental, as well as long term treatment in the animal hospital for other health issues.

5. Honda and Kari were both hospitalized for a week or more at a time for special treatment to take care of a chronic diarrhea problem.

We currently have over 150 animals in our foster care system: cats, kittens, dogs, puppies, rabbits, guinea pigs, chinchilla, ferrets, rats, mice, an iguana, and a goat. It costs quite a bit to keep them all well fed. We currently have a debt with Hill's Pet Nu
